Overview

Welcome to this exciting zoom-based tour for schools where children will be able to visit Tokyo and experience its unique Christmas spirit and be part of the celebrations.

As is the case with our other tours, a local expert will take you around the city so you can experience it in real time. Besides giving children the opportunity to explore Tokyo, the tour is designed to connect children more closely with Japan. In the run up to the tour, participating children will be provided with personalised tags on which they can write their name and a personal Christmas wish for people in Japan. We will send these personal messages to Japan where Globe From Home’s local team will display them on a Christmas tree in a public space, for people to see.

For a country that has merely 1.5% of its population following Christianity, Japan certainly packs a punch when it comes to celebrating Christmas. Riding a wave of globalisation, the country has embraced Christmas and its festivities, without the religious connotations. Much like other western influences, Christmas has been tweaked to fit in with the local Japanese cultures. That does not mean it’s any less fun – just that it's different. Presents and cakes make the rounds and there are special Christmas markets and cakes. Interestingly KFC is the most popular meal at Christmas. The chilly winter nights are warmed by the dazzling illuminations throughout the streets, tall twinkling trees along the roads and mesmerising decorations all across their cities.

On this tour, your local expert will take you around the colourful streets by night and show you how the Japanese celebrate this joyous festival. The contrast of the laid back tree-lined streets and the busy, colourful intersections is a joy to experience. You will walk through a local Christmas market and experience the bustle. We will be sending you pictures of the Christmas tree with the personal name and message tags from children, making this a memorable experience.

P.S: In the spirit of Christmas, families can join the children on this tour without any additional charges.
