Overview

A unique program  that offers teams a real destination and cultural orientation of India. Combining destination visits with first-hand learning about local life, customs and etiquettes the program aims to break stereotypes and enable teams to celebrate diversity.

To gain a real insight into another culture, one needs to go beyond the destination and the external characteristics of the locals. Our programs are designed to not only provide an orientation of key destinations but also acquaint you with the local culture, backgrounds, history, and other aspects which highlight our shared traits as humans.

This program consists of five 90 minute sessions relayed live and in real time from different destinations. The grandeur of India cannot be captured within one trip as every destination has a treasure trove of different highlights to offer. We have chosen five destinations from across the country that will offer the team an essence of life in India. Teams will learn about local life, customs, socio economic conditions, do’s and don’t’s with regards to etiquettes and gain unparalleled insights which will alter their perception of the country. DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Day 1: Mumbai

Set in the slums of Mumbai, Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire' swept the 2009 academy awards with 8 Oscars and showcased to millions across the globe- the amazing world of Mumbai's slums and its dwellers. But if you thought that slums were all there was to Mumbai. Think again! Popularly known by its erstwhile name, Bombay, this vibrant port city overlooking the sparkling Arabian sea is home to more than 16 million people and is also popular for being the business capital of India, for its multi-million dollar film industry, its burgeoning fashion scene, vibrant culture, rich history, effervescent nightlife, shopping avenues and a plethora of other delights.

In our session today we will take you on a journey that will highlight the contrasts of the city. You will visit the busy Victoria terminus, encounter delightful street food, visit Queen’s necklace and magnificent Taj hotel. Through this tour you will also become better acquainted with Indian greetings and traits.

The tour will end with a Bollywood dance class session where teams can learn the signature steps that will make you stand out at the next such event.

Day 2: Chandigarh

Visit Chandigarh, where we will take you to the spectacular Golden Temple – the most sacred temple for the Sikhs. This temple is a great example of the spirit of tolerance and acceptance that the Sikh philosophy propounds. You will learn about Sikh traditions and get an insight into the ‘langars’ which feed thousands for free each day.

Later, you will visit Jallianwala Bagh- Martyrs' Memorial built in the shape of eternal flame of liberty which is situated on the outskirts of Golden Temple. Around 2000 people were killed here during the times of the British rule in India under the instructions of General Dyer who was in charge of Chandigarh at the time. A historian will present a talk about India’s history through colonial times until now.

In the second part of this session teams will be taught to dress up in traditional Indian costumes.

Day 3: Delhi

One cannot get a complete picture of India’s history without visiting the capital city of Delhi. At once ancient and modern, Delhi remains the country’s political nerve centre. In our session today you will visit the ancient part of Delhi sculpted and shaped by many cultures.

You will visit the colourful and thriving Chandni Chowk once an imperial avenue of Mughal royalty and now one of the busiest commercial markets in the city. Through this tour you will get an insight into life in Delhi.

We will then you to New Delhi where you will visit the Presidential palace and Houses of Parliament. This session is accompanied by a talk about the history of India and the socio political situation.

The second part of this session includes a Mehendi demonstration session from a local expert.

Day 4: Varanasi

Today you will visit Varanasi, a city of spiritual gurus, astrologers, sacred rivers, funeral pyres, secretive tantric temples and rightfully claiming its place as the spiritual nerve centre of India. It is also a place written into myths, legends and sacred texts dating back hundreds of years. It’s where the Hindu god Shiva is said to have torn off one of Brahma’s five heads during a fight. Protagonists in the ancient Hindu epic Mahabharata came here to atone for their sins. In addition to this, it’s in the waters of the Ganges where Hindus come to attain ‘moksha’ — the liberation from the endless cycle of birth, death and rebirth.

Watch life unfold from a distance as you sail down the Ganges. There are a number of ‘Ghats’ alongside the river Ganges in Varanasi where one can see births being celebrated and final rituals of cremation as well. You will lose yourself in the mesmerizing display of lights at the ‘Aarti’ prayers performed every evening to the accompaniment of chants of holy Vedic mantras and musical instruments that are perhaps as old as the city.

Experience an authentic, one on one meditation session with a local expert.

Day 5 : Kerala

On our last session of this program, we visit Kerala- nicknamed God’s own country for its breath-taking backwaters, palm fringed beaches, lush tea plantations and wildlife. Kerala is much more than its scenic highlights, however.  It’s a model state that boats of 100% literacy and a quality of life that is comparable to that of the best in the world.

The culture and cuisine here are awe inspiring and today’s session covers both. You will take a tour through the historical part of Cochin (also called Fort Cochin) where you can see life unfold.

The second part of the session covers a Cooking class where you can learn to perfect a few classical Keralan dishes (includes a vegetarian and non vegetarian dish so team members can choose). Thats not all, however. This final session includes a cook-off battle between all participating team members. Once you have completed the lesson, you will be given time to prepare the dishes which will be judged (albeit, online) by our local chef based on presentation and other aspects. A fitting end to your Destination & Culture orientation program.
