Experience the Moon Festival at the Great Tang Mall in Xian

On this day, the Chinese believe that the moon is at its brightest and fullest size, coinciding with harvest time in the middle of Autumn. Lanterns of all size and shapes, are carried and displayed – symbolic beacons that light people's path to prosperity and good fortune. 'Moon cakes' - a rich pastry filled with meat and sweet bean are traditionally eaten during this time.

Students can experience this year's Moon festival at the vibrant  Great Tang Mall – the longest pedestrian street in Asia and one of most culturally rich destinations in Xian. Xian served as the capital of the glorious Tang dynasty. The modern Grand Tang Mall was built to reflect its rich heritage while also being a centre of entertainment and culture for visitors. The mall is very popular with youngsters and families and offers a recreational yet educational experience.

The roads here are lined with buildings reflecting the splendid architecture of the Tang Dynasty, while the trees are decorated with LED strips making it a sight to cherish at night. Walking around the streets you will feel like you were walking on a giant scroll.

Students  can enjoy various street performances here and take part in the festive atmosphere. If you are lucky you will interact with a famous entertainer in Tang costume, who enthrals visitors with her fairy-like dances. Students will have the opportunity to interact with locals under the supervision of our presenter guide.
