Overview

Course Overview:

Extreme heat, driven by climate change, is accelerating in frequency, intensity, and duration. It impacts hundreds of millions around the world each year, putting increasing pressure on public health, education systems, infrastructure, food security, livelihoods, and the natural environment.

Globe From Home’s Heat Resilience Champions green skills program uses a pioneering, live-streamed, virtual, ‘source-based’ pedagogy that blends real-world learning from across the globe with practical, hands-on training. This approach equips learners with the experiential knowledge and skills to help individuals, communities, and cities adapt to extreme heat using affordable, scalable and sustainable solutions. The program is designed to deliver strategies based on global best practices while deepening learners’ understanding of the climate injustices that disproportionately affect vulnerable communities—empowering them to lead equitable change.

Designed for participants from formal and informal educational backgrounds, the Heat Resilience Champions course offers a pathway to sustainable livelihoods, tackling both climate change and employment.

The program begins with a module on Climate & Sustainability Awareness, taking students virtually to countries around the world to witness the real-time impacts of climate change and learn best practices in sustainability. A specialized module on Heat Resilience explores the effects of extreme heat and investigates solutions in personal, community, and urban contexts through immersive virtual experiences, highlighting successful strategies from around the world.

Each section is followed by practical workshops, that equip learners with actionable skills to address extreme heat across various scenarios—emergency heat response (personal resilience), cool roof painting (community resilience), designing urban gardens (urban resilience), heat mapping in schools, and heat awareness advocacy.

The course concludes with a module on ‘Green Life Skills,’ providing learners with essential tools to drive transformational change.

By combining global insight with local action, the Heat Resilience Champions program prepares learners to become a skilled and effective workforce equipped to combat heat-related challenges.
