Overview

This is a unique opportunity for students in other parts of the world to virtually meet children in India and learn about the customs and celebrations during the colourful Diwali festival.

The five day festival of Diwali (also called the 'Festival of lights' is celebrated by millions of Indian's across the world. It coincides with harvest and new year celebrations and is considered to be the triumph of light over darkness. (The world Diwali comes from the Sanskrit world Deeapavali which means lighted lamps)

During the festival, the whole of India comes alive in a spirit of celebration. Public places are decorated abundantly and people decorate their houses with lamps (also called 'Diyas') and festive colours. It's a time for feasts and sweets and new clothes. The festival is celebrated by the young and old using fireworks.

Real-world student exchange programs are designed to bring children from two countries together thus acquainting them with each other’s culture and language. However, such programs  are not been accessible to everyone. Globe From Home’s International Classroom exchange sessions completely eliminates the limitations of conventional programs bringing children from different countries together virtually and in real time (subject to time zones, of course).

On this session, students in other countries will be able to meet children in India and lean about the festivities first-hand from them. Students can engage in collaborative activities like Diya painting.

The session requires one teacher from both countries to be present.
