Dance is one of the most creative ways a person can effectively express themselves. A whole variety of emotions can be depicted through body and limb movements, gestures and facial expressions, all of which are elements of nearly every dance form. International Dance Day, celebrated on 29 April since 1982, is intended to encourage the education and performance of various dance forms all around the world. The date was chosen by the International Theatre Institute, since it commemorated the birthday of the man who heralded modern ballet - Jean-Georges Noverre. In this session, we let children have a fun-filled hour of dance by learning a few steps of the Tango. Get ready to put your best foot forward with this Tango dance session live-streamed all the way from its home country – the fascinating land of Argentina.
Our native host for the day will first take you through the history of Tango, to understand the origin of this dance and how it developed over the years. The dance that was once believed to be performed only by the lower strata of society has now become a ballroom favourite across the world. The Tango involves simply walking across the dance floor with a partner and pausing dramatically to the music, while expressing passion and emotion through a set of elegant dance moves. Milonga, the form that we’ll be practising today, is more of a social form that is often enjoyed in a group, with slightly faster movements and lesser number of pauses. So it's bound to be enjoyable for children.
In Tango dancing, the music has a significant role to play. Pay attention to the harmonies of the accordion, clarinet or the guitar and learn how they affect the mood and tempo of the dance.
For all those who have never let their feet loose, and for those seasoned dancers, this live-streamed demonstration class of the Tango, guided by a trained dancer, is sure to be an entertaining one. Along with appreciating this Argentinian dance form, children will have fun during this event, and will look forward to occasions where they can show off their moves.
