Bangkok is a place frequented (often repeatedly!) by people from across the world. The charm of this bustling city remains in the fact that just when you think you’ve seen everything it has to offer, you find some quiet little neighbourhood hidden somewhere in its heart. Talat Noi is one such gem that you’ll find right next to Yaowarat, the city’s very own Chinatown. This quarter of the Chinese settlement is frequented by very few. Join this tour for a lively walk to see a different side of Bangkok as our host takes you through little known streets and shows you the hip hangouts of the area.
You will see some of Bangkok’s oldest buildings and find out why more and more of them are disappearing. Talat Noi is also known as the art district which the street art along the way shows. Numerous art festivals and events attract artists and visitors from around the Globe. Along the way you will explore small aisles and sneak through windows and open doors showing unfiltered local life.
Part of Chinatown, Talat Noi’s history goes back to the beginning of Bangkok more than 250 years ago. The tour will start next to the Chao Phraya River, the aorta of Bangkok. You will see the influence of the Portuguese in religion and architecture in the early days. Walking pass a typical local square, learning about why the famous three wheelers are called Tuk Tuks and why 7/11 is so important in people’s daily life.
Boat engines have been repaired for many years in Talat Noi and we will get to the bottom of why other types of engines are appearing here now too. You will walk past towering piles of engine parts and observe how these engines been taken apart by pure handwork. A dream for every street-photographer.
You will visit a Chinese temple and one of the coolest contemporary hangout spaces on the river, learn about traditional Thai food you can easily recreate at home and find out where you can get your scuba diving license in the middle of the city.
The tour ends on a rooftop bar overlooking the Chao Phraya from north to south, with glimpses of traditional and modern Bangkok.
Corporate employees will surely find this session a unique invigorating experience from the city of Bangkok and will surely be left craving for more. Do make the most of the fantastic river view at the end of the session, because that’ll be an image you’ll want to forge to memory.<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>
