Overview

The ever so popular Bangkok city has been visited by many a tourist from all over the world. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you probably stumble upon something lesser known while walking through some of its narrow alleys. Talat Noi is one such hidden gem in the Thai capital. While the neighbouring Chinatown area of Yaowarat is visited by most people, Talat Noi is frequented by very few. Join this tour for a unique invigorating experience in the city and you’ll surely be longing for more.

Part of Chinatown, Talat Noi’s history goes back to the beginning of Bangkok more than 250 years ago. The tour will start next to the Chao Phraya River, the aorta of Bangkok. You will see the influence of the Portuguese in religion and architecture in the early days. Walking pass a typical local square, learning about why the famous three wheelers are called Tuk Tuks and why 7/11 is so important in people’s daily life.

You will see some of Bangkok’s oldest buildings and find out why more and more of them are disappearing. Talat Noi is also known as the art district which the street art along the way shows. Numerous art festivals and events attract artists and visitors from around the Globe. Along the way you will explore small aisles and sneak through windows and open doors showing unfiltered local life.

You will visit a Chinese temple and one of the coolest contemporary hangout spaces on the river, learn about traditional Thai food you can easily recreate at home and find out where you can get your scuba diving license in the middle of the city.

Boat engines have been repaired for many years in Talat Noi and we will get to the bottom of why other types of engines are appearing here now too. You will walk past towering piles of engine parts and observe how these engines been taken apart by pure handwork. A dream for every street-photographer.

Students will enjoy this lively walk seeing a different side of Bangkok, as the host takes you through the little known streets and shows you around the hangouts of the area, ending at one with a fantastic view of the Chao Phraya River.

Taking care of large corporate groups and private high-end clients gave him the opportunity to explore Southeast Asia in detail. Living and working in Thailand has cemented his appreciation for this country, the people and their cuisine. Jo loves to walk around Chinatown and areas around it to explore new places emerging in old parts of town. With its small winding road and river alleys there is always something to discover in Bangkok.
