TOUR DESCRIPTIONS

1. Tour of Krakow

The ancient capital of Poland, the city of Krakow dates back to at least the 10th century. It was once a multicultural centre of one of the biggest countries in Europe with its history, myths and legends. This session is a tour around the city that was not destroyed during the Second World War and has been included on the first UNESCO Heritage List.

During the tour we will see:

  • The medieval city walls
  • The Main Market Square with its iconic landmarks: St. Mary’s Church and the Cloth Hall
  • Wawel Hill with the Wawel Cathedral and the Royal Castle

2. Kazimierz
Kraków’s historical Jewish neighbourhood, Kazimierz is a place where seven pre-war synagogues remain which makes it a unique complex on a European scale. This tour will unfold the 1000-year-long history of Jewish presence in Poland which, despite the Holocaust, continues until the present day.

During the tour we will see:

  • Szeroka Street, once the centre of the Jewish district with the Old and Remu Synagogues
  • New Square which used to be a Jewish marketplace
  • JCC Kraków that caters for the Jewish community today

3. Food and tradition of Poland

This 2-part session that will present traditional Polish cuisine and the ways Polish people celebrate holidays, weddings and other important days in their lives. It is accompanied by a pierogi cooking class where participants can make their own pierogi - the most famous Polish dish in the world.

The session will have two parts. During the first one we will wander through an open-air market to see different foods and talk to the people selling them. We will show you some of the Polish iconic foods: pickled cucumbers, cabbage, cheeses, meats and bread. We will also show you how a proper Polish dinner should look like.

During the second part we will invite you to our home to show you how to make pierogi.

4. Warsaw
This 2-part session will introduce you to the events of World War II, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and the horrors of the Holocaust that changed the face of Poland and the world forever. Warsaw saw tremendous losses during the Second World War. The city was almost wiped out from the surface of the Earth, and its population, especially the Jewish, was almost totally annihilated. Nevertheless, Warsaw witnessed some incredible acts of courage and bravery along this terrible path. All of this will be discussed during our tour.

You can expect to see:

  • Monument to the Warsaw Uprising of 1944
  • Umschlagplatz - a place where Jews from Warsaw Ghetto were gathered before they were deported to death camps
  • Miła 18 - a place where Jewish fighters were hiding during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943

5. Gdansk - Roads to freedom
This is a tour of Gdańsk, a city where changes in the communist-ruled Europe had begun with the Solidarity movement that eventually brought freedom to half of the continent. This tour will help you understand the modern history of East-Central Europe, the crimes and paradoxes of communism as well as the force that helped to overcome it.

During the tour we will see:

  • Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers of 1970
  • Gdańsk Shipyard historic halls
  • European Solidarity Centre.
